No Royal Oak added yet? More a bar than a pub, but what about The Print House?

When I was a child, living in Prescot in the 1940/50 era,my father used to drink at”Tommy Hall’s”:real name The Hare and Hounds if my memory is correct. However in those days, when we had real landlords who mixed with their customers pubs were often referred to by the landlord’s name. For example The Plough (now closed or renamed perhaps) was known as Bill Winter’s and at Christmas time Bill would give his regulars and a tot of rum and a cigar. I left Prescot nearly 50 years ago. Perhaps some old Prescotion could confirm or correct the above.

Yes, Tommy Hall’s was the local name for the Hare and Hounds. I can’t remember anybody ever calling it the Hare and Hounds.
What about The British Soldier near the Boys Grammar School site? Corner of Cross Street and St Helens Road. Amongst my crowd when I was a teenager it had a reputation as “an old man’s pub”. I don’t know if this was justified. We were all about 16 or 17 so it probably just meant that it was a bit quiet or the landlord wouldn’t serve under-age drinkers. It must have closed in the late 70s/80s.
