Former Whiston Mayor Standing as Independent in Election
(Press release) Former Mayor of Whiston Brian Corkill is standing as an independent in the forthcoming local elections for the Tushingham Whiston ward.
Mr Corkill has come to the end of his four-year term in office as a Delph ward councillor. He was moved there from Tushingham by the local Labour Party, amid fears at the last election that the seat would be taken by the Liberal Democrats, whose influence was spreading from nearby Prescot. Brian and two other experienced Whiston Councillors were uprooted and sent to the unsafe Delph seats to release their wards for more “cosseted” members of the branch

It’s always sad to see a party become so rattled by the actions of their members leaving. Politics is a game of believing in what you think is right. If this means leaving a party then so be it … Many people saw that this was necessary last May when less votes where handed to Labour. It’s so sad to see that Labor feel the need to publicly state their anger and try to embarrass others, rather than take the high road and ignore it and move on with life. Perhaps if you acted more mature rather than spending so much time pointing the finger, your members would be happy to stay. Also, should you not be spending your time concentrating on your party’s own actions, rather than concerning yourself with whether or not Brian is sat in front of a ‘warm fire’. Its a little sad and perverse, don’t you think?

i have been a labour voter all my life since being able to vote, i live in whiston north and am very sorry to say i have come to realise the hatred the whiston north labour party feel towards others of their own party and other political parties. i recently received an absolute disgusting leaflet through my door giving a personal attack of the other candidate that was standing, this is an outrage to think think this is the kind of people we are voting for or should i now say was.
