Free Olympic Torch Event at Knowsley Safari Park

There’s a huge celebration planned to welcome the Olympic Torch to Knowsley on June 1.

There’ll be a free, ticketed event at Knowsley Safari Park from 10am until 4.30pm to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the arrival of the Olympic Flame. It includes a talent show hosted by Radio City and a chance to see the sights and sounds of the Safari Park.

The park will open at 10am and people with tickets will have full access to the whole of the Safari Park. From 12.30pm onwards, local groups will have the chance to perform on the “Moment to Shine” stage which will be hosted by Radio City presenter Claire Simonsen.

Then, at around 3pm, the Olympic Torch will arrive in the Park, carried by torchbearers from the community. As the flame leaves, the entertainment will carry on until about 4.30pm.

You can also be part of the Olympic Flame excitement by lining the route of the torch relay on Liverpool Road in Huyton. This is expected to happen between 3pm and 4pm.

Crowds of people are expected to gather to celebrate and support the torch bearers. There’ll be more details of the route on the council’s website over the coming weeks.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is encouraging people to become “Local Leaders” in the run up to the events. These are people who will take the lead in organising local celebrations of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

By signing up to be a Local Leader at, they will get access to ideas and tools to bring their friends, family and communities together.

This includes help to make their community stand out on the route of the Torch Relay, invite cards, recipe tips and party sheets for Olympic themed events and lantern processions to mark the Paralympic Games.

Local leaders will also be able to publicise their celebration events on the London 2012 Join In listings website.

Community groups can also buy Olympic celebration packs of flags, bunting and banners for just £99.00 including VAT, by logging onto the Look website.
