Merseyside Police can confirm officers received a report of suspicious activity in the Whiston area this afternoon (Friday, 5 April).

At around 12.30pm, an 11-year-old boy was walking down Delph Lane when he reported a man in a black car pulled up alongside him and offered him a lift. The boy carried on walking until he met up with some friends and reported the incident.

The man is described only as being white, with short hair.

Patrols attended, officers conducted house to house enquiries in the area and CCTV is being sought.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Guinness said: “While this boy was uninjured, he has been left shaken. He did the right thing by removing himself from the situation and reporting it to police.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have witnessed this incident to contact 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Update: Merseyside Police say what happened is unrelated to an incident earlier this week in the same neighbourhood, when a man approached a 14-year-old girl and asked for her phone number. Note the comment below, with more details from the mother of the girl concerned.

Earlier incident may not b connected but it was my 14 year old that was approached and she was not just asked for her phone number..he asked her to go with him for some ‘fun’ as he put it, you made it sound as if he was just chatting a girl up, my daughter is naive and does not not talk to strangers, especially grown men! You should make people aware that this was not just a chance encounter, he went out of his way to speak to her and I just thank god she had the common sense to get away.
