£0.75m Plan to Turn Fusilier Pub into Prescot Town Hall

By on Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Prescot Town Council have purchased The Fusilier on Warrington Road for their new premises.

The familiar brick building on the corner of St Helens Road will be given a completely new look when it becomes the hub of town council business and a central gathering place for the local community.

The council bought the former public house in August 2012 and have since drawn up plans that will be put into action at the end of June. They aim to open the new Prescot Town Hall in January 2014.

As well as a bright new exterior, the interior will see big changes. A glazed front, facing Warrington Road, will open into the new reception area.

The ground floor will house a large multi-purpose room with an estimated capacity of 200, along with a bar and kitchen, available for functions and community use.

The first floor will have offices, meeting rooms and toilets. A sliding partition will divide a conference room and the main council chamber, creating a larger space for some meetings.

An elevator will ensure both floors have disabled and wheelchair access, and the existing car park will be resurfaced and given improved security to make space for up to 20 vehicles.

The town council have not owned premises outright since 1974, having previously used space in the now-demolished Prescot Leisure Centre, owned by Knowsley Council. The council say the £0.75 million project will offer greater stability for residents, as well as a more central facility for the community.

A Knowsley Council leisure facility that includes a fitness suite, changing rooms and a cafe is due to open on the old Prescot Leisure Centre site in October 2013. Seven new pitches will open on 15 July.
