Gun & Ammo Found Buried in Rainhill Field

Via Merseyside Police:

Detectives from Merseyside Police’s Matrix anti-gun crime unit are examining a suspected handgun and ammunition found buried in a field in Rainhill on Sunday, 30 June.

At about 3.30pm a member of the public reported finding the weapon in a field near to Two Butt Lane.

Officers attended and a search of the area was carried out resulting in, what is believed to be, a firearm and an amount of unused ammunition being found in a tin.

Forensic experts are now examining the weapon and ammunition.

Detective Chief Inspector Richie Salter, from the force’s specialist Matrix team said: “Thanks to the information from this member of the public we have recovered a firearm and an amount of ammunition.

“We encourage members of the public to provide information to us about the location of firearms and this is just one example of our commitment to responding to information received. We will always take positive action when members of the public share information with us and with their help we can keep taking guns off our streets and put the people who use them behind bars.”
