RIP Jonathan Fitchett, Prescot Man Attacked Thursday
A Merseyside Police investigation into an assault has become a murder inquiry after the 22-year-old victim, from Prescot, died in hospital.
Jonathan Fitchett, an ex-pupil of St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic School, was attacked by four men in Cables Retail Park, Prescot, at lunchtime on Thursday 11 July.
According to police, no weapon was involved.
Jonathan was badly beaten, receiving serious head injuries, and he suffered cardiac arrest before being taken to Whiston Hospital shortly after 1.30pm.
He died on Friday. A post-mortem will be held over the weekend.
Police have confirmed they arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of murder. They have also seized a car they believe was involved in the attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Cox, said: “This is a tragedy for everyone who knew Jonathan and our sympathies are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
“We are treating his death as murder and the large-scale investigation that was already underway following his assault will continue until all the people involved have been caught.
“We are following a number of positive lines of enquiry and we are actively seeking the offenders involved in this incident.
“I would urge anyone in the area with information about this incident to contact us and tell us what they know and I would also call on the people involved in attacking Jonathan to do the right thing and step forward and tell us what happened.”
Anyone with information is asked to phone Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

And these thugs are that tough it takes all of them to kill this guy. Or is it there that evil they prefered the idea of more fists and feet would increase the pain while beating him to death. Mindless scumbags
