Tuesday 10 December The trial of Gerard Childs and Stephen Price for the murder of Jonathan Fitchett began at Liverpool Crown Court last Tuesday, 3 December. Prescot Online coverage so far:

Thursday 9 August Johnny Fitchett was laid to rest at Knowsley Cemetery, Whiston, yesterday, following his funeral at St Luke’s Catholic Church, Prescot.

Monday 5 August Childs and Price will stand trial for the murder of Jonathan Fitchett on 2 December. They’ll enter their pleas on 11 October.

Tuesday 30 July The hearing has been put back seven days to Monday 5 August.

Friday 19 July 11:50 Family and friends will gather at Cables Retail Park, Prescot, tonight, to release lanterns in Jonny’s memory. They meet at 9.30pm outside JD Sports. Today marks one week since his life was tragically taken. (Prescot Online shares this information by request of Jonny’s close friend Gary.)

Wednesday 17 July 17:20 The two men accused of Jonathan Fitchettt’s murder appeared before Liverpool Crown Court for a short hearing this morning. Gerard Childs and Stephen Price were told they’d be held in police custody until a preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday 29 July.

Monday 15 July 16:45 Gerard Childs, 27, of Rainhill, and Stephen Price, 28, of Prescot, appeared in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court this morning.

In separate hearings, each was informed his case would be heard before Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday 17 July.

Both stand accused of the murder of Prescot man Jonathan Fitchett, 22. He was brutally beaten by four men on Thursday 11 July and died in Whiston Hospital the following day.

    Also staff in nearby shops I read will not give statements there just as bad as the murderers!!

      Tony you are talking crap , staff in the shops have been told NOT to talk about the incident and no statements have been taken by the POLICE from them so get your facts right as I know it was shop staff who gave him first aid ..WHERE WERE YOU !

        I think you are wrong there as it was a neighbour of mines sister who gave first aid and resuscitated him. Jd sports , b and ms and boots staff did nothing to help if I would of been there I would of got these barbaric animals of jonathon. Absolutely disgusting fighting in a pack. Scumbags anyway rot in hell

    Why would you NOT give a statement to the police? Agree with the above entirely, your letting the monsters who did this get away with it by doing that.

    If you saw anything, anything at all, give a statement and hold your head up high. Otherwise your nothing but a coward.

    This young had a life till scum animals came to him who gives these people the right to take another ones life lock them up and throw away the key better still give all four to Jonathan’s family and friends and let them do to these scumbags what they did to him ,hope his family find justice they want

    i cant believe that people that saw what happened have refused to give would you feel if it was one of your loved ones that had the life kicked and punched out of them.this young man had a life ahead of him to live ,no one has the right to take this mans life away from him and his family and friends .id say to them give your statments speak up for jonathon and let the justice system do the rest

    It is horrifying to think that shop owners witnessed this brutal act….shameful and disgraceful. That was a member of my family that was taken from us…..God Speed to John….and to the rest that sat and watched, i can only hope God can forgive you.

    so we let a young man get killed in daylight for wat ever reason and all you shop owners and security guards and ppl shopping not only stand and let it happen you wont give statements well shame on you and I hope to god you never have to be the mother or father or brother sister or husband and recive the news his family did you r no better than the scum who did this its could have been stopped in seconds but no well I as a mother would have had no fear of doing the right thing to save a life but then I am just a mum and you well scum comes to mind…… I send my heart felt sympathy to his family and hope in the darkness you find light in tears you find joy love like he was loved he will always be your son brother and much more to many more … from a mum xx

    The people who witnessed this attack did nothing and are still doing nothing. They are cowards and they need to remember there is a saying that what goes around comes around. I sincerely hope that none of them have a good nights sleep ever again, In fact if people stopped shopping at the retail park the lot of them would be without a job and it’s only what they deserve. As a mother who has experienced a son being attacked I feel deeply for this young mans family. May he rest in peace and my heartfelt sympathy goes to his family and friends, It won’t take the pain away but hopefully the support will help carry you through the darkest days. As for the families of the witnesses, hang your heads in shame at what you have created.
