Man Rescued from Whiston Hospital Roof
A man who threatened to jump from the roof of Whiston Hospital has been talked down by police.
Emergency services arrived at the incident just before 11am this morning (Monday 22 July).
Dragon Lane was shut for several hours between Stoney Lane and Warrington Road as police dealt with the incident. Part of Shaw Lane was also cordoned off.
The man talked to a police negotiator and agreed to come down from the five-storey building shortly before 1pm.
He was detained under the Mental Health Act.
Under the law, mental health professionals are allowed to keep a person against their will if they consider it the best way to ensure their safety and provide them with the treatment they need.

I am relieved to see this report and that the gentleman was able to be reasoned with and escaped unharmed. Good negotiations by the police I’m sure contributed to his safe rescue. The mental health team at Whiston will be able to provide him with the care he requires.
