Prescot Town Hall Back on Track with New Contractors
The Fusilier pub’s £0.75-million conversion to the new Prescot Town Hall is on schedule after a big setback.
Work was due to go ahead last month, but plans fell through when builders Whittaker (Huyton), Ltd went bust.
“Following the regrettable news that the previous contractor had entered into administration the Town Council acted quickly to appoint another contractor from the tender process,” said Town Clerk Daniel Wilson, “ensuring the project could still be delivered within its budgetary capacity and desired time frame.”
Preston-based Carefoot Plc have now been awarded the contract, which will see the former Fusilier radically overhauled.
Bright, new frontage (pictured) will transform the once-bleak exterior, and the inside will be redeveloped to provide function rooms, conference space, offices and a council chamber.
The Town Hall will provide a central gathering place for the community as well as a permanent home for Prescot Town Council.
“The appointment of W Carefoot and Sons PLC means work on site will commence towards the end of August, with an expected completion date of March 2014,” said Mr Wilson. “The provision of the New Town Hall will see an increase in facilities available to residents of Prescot and those further afield.”
