Cables Announces Free Kids’ Entry Next Season

By on Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Prescot CablesPrescot Cables Football Club is opening its doors to children free of charge for its entire 2013-14 season.

Under-16s will be able to attend all league matches at Valerie Park, the club’s Hope Street home ground, in a drive to get young people captivated by sport.

The club has adopted the slogan “Don’t let your kids grow up thinking football is a TV programme,” saying that non-league fixtures are a great way to promote the game at a time when families are being priced out of live league football.

“Knowsley is fortunate that despite the topsy turvy financial climate, Prescot Cables continues to compete at the semi-pro level of the Evo-Stik League,” the club said in a press release this week. “This is made all the more remarkable when one considers that the club is run entirely by volunteers with no local authority funding and the sole aim of providing football at the highest level for local residents.”

The club has been going since 1884 and is now an official community interest company, boasting a senior team, reserves, a youth team and a number of junior teams covering all age ranges.
