prescot_cemetery_gates_friendsThe Friends of Prescot Cemetery and Churchyard will be hard at work this weekend.

The recently founded community group are holding a clean-up day on Sunday 8 September, from noon till 5pm, as part of their long-term bid to improve the town’s graveyard, on Manchester Road.

They’ll return on Tuesday 10 September, from 6pm till dark, to finish the job.

The group, which had its first official meeting in July this year, was formed after Prescot residents noticed the cemetery’s dilapidated state and asked Knowsley Council to take action.

Since then, the group have established a good relationship with the borough and town councils, and have received offers of support and resources from local businesses and community groups.

Knowsley Council have repainted the double gates and restored missing plaques and signs to give the main entrance a more welcoming appearance.

All volunteers are welcome to join the clean-up for the entire time or just an hour or two. Full information and contact details for further queries are on the new website, www.prescotcemetery.org.uk.
