Evelyn Pupils Relive the ’70s for Birthday Celebrations
Evelyn Community Primary School in Prescot celebrated its 40th anniversary by going back to 1973.
At an event attended by 40 VIP guests, pupils sang seventies ABBA hits and danced with umbrellas to the classic Morecambe and Wise song “Bring Me Sunshine.”
Visitors included former staff, both former head teachers, and past pupils whose own children now attend.
Children investigated the school’s log books, which revealed 80 children signed up for the first day – a quarter of the school’s current size.
They ended the day’s celebrations by releasing 40 red balloons.
“We’ve all had a wonderful time celebrating our school’s special anniversary,” said Head Teacher Carole Arnold. “The pupils have really enjoyed discovering lots about the 70s from the music and fashion to the cost of living and school life.
“Everyone connected with the school has such a lot to celebrate. We’re all proud of what the school stands and determined to continue to work together and strive to get even better and better.”
The celebration was the first in a series of 40th anniversary events planned for the 2013/14 school year.
