James_Greenop_whiston_02A donations drive in memory of a Whiston schoolboy has raised over £10,000 for an autism charity.

After Whiston Willis Primary School pupil James Greenop died in October, at the age of 10, his family set up a Just Giving page for people to donate to Wirral Autistic Society in place of flowers.

The Greenops described the charity as “a cause special to our family’s heart.”

James’s family “have been regular supporters of the society, who help support James’ cousin who suffers from autism,” the society’s website said on announcing the amount raised.

Funds are still coming in, they say, and well-wishers can still donate at www.justgiving.com/helen-greenop.

James passed away tragically after being hit by a bus in Speke, Liverpool, on Thursday 25 October.
