Cables Celebrate ‘Community Asset’ Status
Valerie Park, the home ground of Prescot Cables Football Club, has become the first property in Knowsley to be listed as a ‘community asset.’
This means that if the property’s owner ever decides to sell up, he must notify the club and give them six months to prepare a bid to buy it.
For Cables, Knowsley Council’s decision to grant the request means knowing their home ground can never be sold out from under them before they’ve been given a fair chance to buy it for themselves.
The listing doesn’t guarantee the final outcome, but it does give the club and the local community a fair crack of the whip in the event of any sale.
Under the Localism Act 2011, any town or parish council or community group can nominate a building or land as a community asset.
