Childs & Price Guilty of Jonathan Fitchett Murder
A jury has found two men guilty of murdering Prescot man Jonathan Fitchett.
Gerard Childs (pictured left) and Stephen Price (right), both aged 28, and from Rainhill and Prescot, respectively, attacked Mr Fitchett, 22, at Cables Retail Park, Prescot, on Thursday 11 July.
Shoppers saw the attack, which happened at lunchtime and lasted a mere fifteen seconds. It was also captured on CCTV, and the footage played a key part in the prosecution.
Between them, the pair knocked Jonathan unconscious and continued to assault him as he lay on the ground.
He died in Whiston Hospital the following day from a brain haemorrhage.
The jury rejected the defence’s claim that they had acted in self-defence.
By law, Childs and Price must be given life imprisonment. The judge will pass sentence tomorrow, Friday 20 December.
