Prescot Teen Dies after Motorway Bridge Fall

M57_motorwayA Prescot teenager died this morning, after falling from a bridge near Junction 2 of the M57.

The 19-year-old victim has not yet been officially named.

Emergency services were called at around 6am on Sunday 19 January, following reports first of a man standing on the wrong side of the safety barrier, and then of a man collapsed on the northbound carriageway.

Police shut the motorway between Junctions 1 and 3 for about eight hours, causing traffic congestion lasting well into the afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Paul Speight has appealed for anyone who saw the young man to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 6583.

A post-mortem inquiry will establish the cause of death.
