Evelyn Pupils Warm up for Storytelling Week

Pupils of Evelyn Community Primary School are enjoying National Storytelling Week (Feb 1-8) in their newly heated caravan, thanks to a green energy firm and a Liverpool storyteller.

Children at the Prescot school started reading in their ‘Magical Haven’ in 2012, after it was refurbished and decorated to look like a gingerbread house.

But they were frozen out of their caravan in the winter months until local firm Concept LHP stepped in to provide an environmentally friendly radiant heater to replace their small electric heater.

The new system saves the school on energy bills and is healthier for children, as it heats objects in the room rather than air.

To celebrate the installation, pupils came in from the cold and took part in an inspiring workshop with Roger Hill, of Liverpool Storytelling.

“The installation of the heating has enabled us to make use of the ‘Magical Haven’ even more, something that the pupils are very happy about,” said Head Teacher Carole Arnold.

The radiant heater has been fitted just in time for National Storytelling week, which is a very important date on our calendar. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed Roger’s imaginative workshop, and I am thrilled that it could take place in the caravan.”

Mr Hill, who also presents on BBC Radio Merseyside, shared stories with the children and encouraged them to create their own tales in their Magical Haven.
