cross_lane_carWitnesses described chaotic scenes after a police chase ended on Cross Lane, Prescot, last Friday.

Motorway police were following a suspected stolen vehicle along the M62 Westbound at about 9pm on 28 March.

The speeding car left the M62 at Junction 7 (Rainhill) and continued into Whiston, where several passengers jumped out on Dragon Lane.

Police had earlier tried to stop the silver Lexus with a stinger device, but it continued on its tyre rims.

It hit several vehicles and eventually came to a stop on Cross Lane, near Carrs Terrace, after colliding with a parked Vauxhall Corsa in Molyneux Drive.

One driver said she was taking her parents home when the stolen car came reversing towards her, and she narrowly avoided being hit.

“I managed to pull over, and it skimmed past me,” she said, “but it crashed into numerous cars trying to evade police.”

A bystander told Prescot Online that after crashing into parked and moving cars, the vehicle “turned and screeched off in a shower of sparks and smoke.”

The remaining occupants fled from the scene and have yet to be caught, despite a large-scale police search of the area, which included a dog patrol.

Cross Lane was closed for several hours while damage to parked cars and police vehicles were assessed, but no one was seriously injured.
