Nick_CleggDeputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg visited Glen Dimplex in Whiston on Wednesday 9 April.

The visit followed an announcement that the company would receive £3 million from the Regional Growth Fund, the largest given to any business in the North West.

Glen Dimplex, which makes home appliances on behalf of big brands such as Belling and Stoves, hopes to create 300 new jobs region-wide with the money.

Lib Dem leader ‘Cleggie’ toured the 26-acre manufacturing facility, near Whiston Hospital, met with apprentices and discussed how the grant would be used.

“Many years ago we committed to returning the manufacture of as many of our products back to the UK as possible,” said Glen Dimplex CEO Denver Hewlett, “but that has required significant investment.

“This money will allow us to further expand our operations, create jobs for the local community and increase our export activity.”

The Regional Growth Fund is worth £3.2 billion across the UK, with £23 million allocated to businesses in the North West.
