Appeal for Information about Armed Robbery at Whiston Shop
Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a robbery at a corner store in Whiston on Thursday 17 April.
Two males, armed with a knife and an axe, went into the Colliery Convenience Store on Old Colliery Road, off Cross Lane, at about 3.40pm.
They left with cigarettes and cash after threatening a member of staff, who was left uninjured but distressed.
Patrol officers immediately searched the area and made house-to-house enquiries, and are waiting for CCTV evidence.
The first offender is described as being white and was wearing grey and black hooded jacket, grey tracksuit pants and black gloves.
The second offender is described as being white and was wearing a black hooded top with his face covered.
“We are absolutely determined to find these offenders so they cannot commit further crimes, ” said Detective Sergeant Catherine Walsh, “but we need the public’s help in piecing together what happened before and after they committed this crime.”
She added: “Old Colliery Road is a busy thoroughfare and I would appeal for people to cast their minds back and if they were out and about at that time and think they saw anything that in hindsight seems suspicious, to contact us with that information. I’d also like to reassure people that incidents like this are thankfully very rare and neighbourhood officers will be patrolling this area.
“Information that seems trivial to them may turn out to be crucial for us in catching these offenders.”
Anyone with information about the incident or anyone who may have witnessed males acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the robbery is asked to call Knowlsey CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
