Knowsley’s composting call up

Knowsley residents can celebrate Compost Awareness Week (5 – 11 May) by getting involved with the council’s FREE Compost Giveaway.

Green fingered residents can collect up to three 20kg bags of compost at three ‘giveaway’ events on Sunday, 11 May between 10am and 1pm, at:

Knowsley Council Depot, Arbour Lane, Kirkby L33 7XB
Halewood Park, Okell Drive, Halewood L26 7XB
Knowsley Council Depot, Stretton Way, Huyton L36 6JF

The compost is distributed on a first come, first served basis, so get there early to avoid disappointment. Proof of Knowsley residence may be required.

The compost is made from the contents of the blue garden waste bin collected from Knowsley households and rewards locals for their recycling efforts.

John Flaherty, Director of Neighbourhood Delivery at Knowsley Council said: “Building on the success of previous giveaways, we are taking this opportunity to give something back to residents for their efforts in separating their garden waste for composting.

“We would encourage more residents to recycle their garden waste and reduce the amount of bio-degradable waste that goes to landfill. Residents can get an additional blue bin free of charge by ringing 443 2400.”

Compost Awareness Week from 5 to 11 May aims to promote the benefits of home composting and the great results that can be achieved by using composts containing recycled material.
