Prescot Shopping Centre Announces Charities of the Year
Prescot Shopping Centre will raise funds for a church and a hospice in the coming year, it has announced.
The town centre mall has pledged to raise £4,000 to support Willowbrook Hospice and the Prescot Parish Church roof fund, giving each charity the chance to sponsor popular events such as the Christmas Grotto, which raised over £1,200 in 2013.
Willowbrook Hospice offers care and support for adults with life-limiting illnesses in the St Helens and Knowsley area.
“I’m absolutely delighted that Willowbrook Hospice has been selected as a Prescot Shopping Centre’s partnership charity,” said the hospice marketing manager Dianne Humphreys.
“It’s extremely heart warming to see so many people voted for us. We have a long way to go to reach our yearly target but with the centre’s help, we’re going to be well on our way to achieving it.”
The roof of St Mary’s Church, dating to 1610, has required significant repairs due to a deathwatch beetle infestation of its Jacobean timbers. The work will allow future generations to benefit from Knowsley’s only Grade I listed building.
“We’re extremely happy to have been voted as a Charity of the Year,” said vicar Revd Canon John Taylor.
“We would like to thank all of our supporters who voted for us, and we are very much looking forward to working with the centre.”
