Dead Whiston Man Named as Tony Gibbons
A man who died in Whiston yesterday has been named as 54-year-old Tony Gibbons.
His family, who do not yet want to be identified, have paid tribute to him: “Tony loved music and going out with friends to the local labour club. Everyone loved him and he was the life and soul everywhere he went.
“Tony as a person was loved and respected by everyone. He’ll be sadly missed and always loved by all his family and friends.
“His death leaves a huge hole in our family and we are devastated by this loss.
“We would ask that we are left alone at this time to grieve in peace.”
Mr Gibbons was discovered at a property on Martock, off Lickers Lane, at 2.40pm yesterday (Sunday 27 July), with lacerations to the arms and necks.
Paramedics fought to save his life, but he died on the way to hospital.
A 55-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and is still being questioned by police.
Earlier police reports incorrectly stated the arrested man was 51. Merseyside Police now say they are treating the death as unexplained.
