Police Hold Suspect in Whiston Murder

Update (29/7/14): Merseyside Police are now treating the death as “unexplained.” The arrested man was 55 years old, rather than 51 as initially reported by police, and he has now been released on police bail. The dead man has been identified as 54-year-old Tony Gibbons.

police tapeA 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man from Whiston.

Paramedics were called to a house on Martock, off Lickers Lane, Whiston, at 2.40pm on Sunday 27 July.

They found an injured man, believed to be in his fifties, with lacerations to the neck and arms.

They treated him on the scene, but he died on the way to hospital in an ambulance.

Police were informed of the incident, and another man at the property was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

The body has yet to be formally identified. A Home Office post mortem will take place soon.

The area was cordoned off for forensic investigation, and officers are conducting house-to-house enquiries.
