Hospice to Be M&S Prescot’s Charity of the Year
Willowbrook Hospice will become the official 2014 Charity of the Year for M&S Simply Food Prescot.
Employees of the store, due to open on Cables Retail Park on 1 October, will campaign for 12 months on behalf of Willowbrook, making money through raffles, cake bakes, bag packs, and sponsored walks and runs, among other fundraising activities.
The independently run hospice, in Eccleston Park, has cared for over 6,000 patients since it opened in 1997. It exists largely through donations and fundraising from volunteers in the area.
Store manager Stuart Williams said it was a worthy cause because “it provides vital support to both patients and their families during very difficult times.
“Many of the team have sadly had family members in hospices so they were keen to give something back and make a real contribution to a local charity.”
Willowbrook Fundraising Manager Nichola Saunders said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as we rely so much on the goodwill and generosity of the community that we serve to help us to provide our specialist care free of charge.
“It’s going to be a fantastic year, and we are really looking forward to working with the team at M&S Prescot.”
Prescot Shopping Centre also announced recently that Willowbrook would be one of its two sponsored charities, along with the Prescot Parish Church Roof Appeal.
