Red Lion Pub, Prescot, Closed for Six Weeks
The Red Lion Hotel in Prescot will remain closed until 13 January 2015, a court has decided.
A judge at Liverpool Magistrates Court upheld the six-week closure order at a hearing on Wednesday 3 December.
The action followed dawn raids across Merseyside last week, which resulted in 18 arrests and eight charges for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. The suspects, of whom three were from Prescot, remain in custody until a hearing on 12 December.
Police said that drug dealing and use was “rife” on the pub premises, and local people avoided the area because of it.
Inspector Grahame Webster added that Merseyside Police “want to be able to work with the pub so the public can enjoy a drink there. We will be enforcing stringent measures to ensure that order is maintained there.”
