Prescot History Event to Showcase Ancient Building Techniques
Local history and heritage buffs are invited to see ancient building techniques in action on Saturday 7 March.
The drop-in event, between 10am and 4pm at Prescot Town Hall, features live demonstrations in brick, plaster, stone, timber, and slate roofing.
With help from expert craftspeople from the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), visitors will be able to learn a few skills themselves.
As well as activities and demonstrations throughout the day, the schedule includes:
- 10.30am-12 noon Talk to a SPAB expert about your own building or heritage project
- 11am-11.45am Talk: Getting to know your old building
- 1pm Lime-slaking demonstration
- 2pm-2.45pm Talk: Looking after your old building
- 2.30pm-4pm Talk to an expert about your own building or heritage project
While anyone can drop in any time to see free demonstrations, you’ll need to book ahead to attend a talk. Email owen.barton@knowsley.gov.uk.
The event supports the £3.2-million Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative, which aims to transform the town centre by restoring and improving historic building.
More information is available at prescotthi.org.uk.
