Brassy Line-up for 2015 Prescot Festival

World number four-ranking brass band Foden’s Band will bring its melodies to the historic Lancashire town on Saturday 27 June, building on the success of last year’s brilliantly received gala performance.

Then up-and-coming soloist Hannah Mackenzie, from the Royal Northern College of Music, will play Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto at the Proms-style Festival Finale on Sunday 28 June.

During the 10-day event, audiences will also get to enjoy a fish-and-chip supper alongside a screening of the 1996 comedy-drama Brassed Off. In the ‘80s-set film, the late Warrington-born actor Pete Postlethwaite plays the conductor of a colliery brass band that must fight for survival amid pit closures.

“Brass bands have always proved a hit with Merseyside audiences,” said festival director Dr Robert Howard, “but there’s much more this year, too.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Liverpool Philharmonic cinema organist Dave Nicholas and jazz quartet The Chilled Lemons, among other stellar acts.

“As always, there is lots of room for Prescot talent, too, and we’ll be hearing music and poetry from local schoolchildren, as well as seeing their art on display.”

The 11th Annual Prescot Festival of Music & the Arts runs from Friday 19 to Sunday 28 June 2015. Tickets go on sale on 1 May. A regularly updated programme of events is now online at prescotfestival.co.uk.
