St Mary’s Bells to Toll for VE Day
The bells of St Mary’s Church, Prescot, will ring in celebration of 70 years since the end of World War II this Saturday, 9 May.
Prime Minister Winston Churchill declared the end of war in Europe on 8 May 1945, following Nazi Germany’s surrender to the Allies.
As part of this weekend’s three-day celebration, parish church bells right across the UK will chime.
Beacons will be lit nationwide on Friday to commemorate the occasion, and Prescot Parish Church sounds its bells at 11am on the Saturday.
