Officers were called at around 8.15am this morning following a report of an aggravated burglary at a house on Albany Avenue.

It is believed that three men, one armed with a knife, forced their way into the property and threatened the owners, a 76-year-old man and his 72-year-old wife before escaping with an Omega Presige de Ville watch and a quantity of jewellery.

The offenders, who are all described as white, late teens to early 20s, wearing face coverings and blue hooded jackets, are believed to have escaped in a white Audi (pictured) which was last seen on St Helens Road heading towards Knowsley Safari Park.

Crime Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house inquiries have been carried out.  An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.

Detective Inspector Paul Unsworth, said: “This was a very frightening incident for the victims who were confronted in their own home by three men, one of whom was armed with a knife.

“Fortunately, neither of the victims were hurt, but they are extremely distressed by their ordeal.  I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the local community that a thorough investigation is underway, and we are doing everything possible to identify the offenders and put them before the courts.”

Anyone with information can call detectives at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6811 or 6013 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
