Whiston Library Set for October Demolition, Prescot Library Hours Cut
The former Whiston Library will be demolished in October 2015, Knowsley Council have announced.
The library, on Dragon Drive, shut its doors in March 2014.
A deal to re-open it with the support of Hugh Baird College fell through at the last minute, and proposed plans by a community company, OWL, helmed by local volunteers, were rejected after over a year of negotiations.
The council will knock down the building in October, and the land will be sold for residential development.
Meanwhile, opening hours at Prescot and other libraries across the borough have been cut. Times are now 10am to 5pm Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and 10am to 1pm Thursday and Saturday, with no opening on Wednesday.
Knowsley Council blame central government funding cuts for the borough-wide reduction in library services.
