RIP Ex-Prescot School Boy Colin Vearncombe
[Update 2 February 2016: A public memorial service for Colin Vearncombe will be held at Liverpool Cathedral at 7pm on Friday 19 February. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family have requested donations to either of two charities: Bru Columbanus and West Cork Rapid Response Team.]
The singer-songwriter Colin Vearncombe, aka Black, has died at the age of 53.
Colin, a former Prescot Comprehensive School
pupil, was seriously injured while driving to Cork Airport, Ireland, on 12 January this year. He remained in a coma until passing away on Tuesday 26 January.
During a musical career that lasted from 1981 until his death, he released 14 original albums, plus a further four compilation albums. He was best-known for the 1987 single ‘Wonderful Life,’ a hit both in the UK and worldwide.
While the funeral will be a private occasion, there are plans for a public memorial in Colin’s home city of Liverpool.
A statement on his official website, colinvearcombe.com, said that he “died peacefully surrounded by his family who were singing him on his way.”
Colin is survived by his wife, Camilla, and three sons.
