Steven Johnson recalled to prison 3

A convicted criminal from Prescot is back behind bars after he was arrested in Whiston yesterday (Thursday 4 February).

Steven Johnson, 40, was one of three local men convicted of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply in 2010. When police raided the gang’s premises on Station Road, Prescot, they discovered 4.3 kilograms of cocaine – a fraction of the amount they had been preparing and sending to dealers in Manchester for months.

He was sentenced to six years 11 months in prison, but in January 2014, while on parole, he breached his terms of licence and went on the run.

Mr Johnson taunted police by posting photos of himself with luxury cars to Facebook, apparently from Spain, and challenged them to “catch me if you can” – and after two years, they did.

“The arrest of Johnson today shows that we never give up,” said Sergeant Mark Worrall. “Johnson has been wanted on recall to prison for two years and he has obviously been living the high life abroad, but that has been cut short and he’s now back behind bars.”
