The Friends of Prescot Cemetery & Churchyard and the Friends of Stadt Moers Park were both successful in their application to receive funds. A public vote at Tesco Extra on Cables Retail Park, Prescot, will determine how much each gets.

The cemetery volunteers plan to spend funds on illustrated lecterns, pointing out wildlife, environmental features, key graves, and points of historic and cultural interest in St Mary’s Churchyard.

Anyone shopping at Tesco can vote by asking at the till for tokens, which they can drop in the box of their choice. Voting is open until Sunday 6 March.

A third group, from St Basil’s School in Widnes, is also in the running.
