Cousins Tony Naylor and Adrian Carleton set off on Tuesday 3 May, Tony’s 50th birthday, and are aiming to complete the trek in 21 days. Travelling unsupported, they each carry kit weighing 15kg, which includes camping equipment.

They just passed the halfway point today, Wednesday 11 May.

Plumber Tony was inspired to do the walk after losing his dad to cancer in 2015.

“We had discussed completing the Pennine Way many years ago, so I am doing it in his memory,” he said.

“We are raising money for Blesma so that the charity can continue to support those who have given so much for their country.”

Adrian, now a railway engineer, served with the Royal Corps of Signals during the 1980s, based in both Northern Ireland and Germany. An army colleague lost his leg and has received support from Blesma, which is how he and Tony came across the charity’s work.

So far the pair’s efforts have raised over £1,500 for Blesma, but they are hoping to increase this as the walk progresses.
