merseyside-police-logoA 55-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being attacked in Stadt Moers Park around lunchtime on Saturday (11 June).

Emergency services arrived on the scene on West View, Huyton, just after midday, and the victim was taken to hospital by helicopter. Her wounds are not life-threatening.

An 18-year-old male was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder. Police today (Sunday 12 June) have announced he has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Officers cordoned off a number of areas in and around Stadt Moers Park for forensic examination and are speaking with witnesses. CCTV will be examined and house-to-house enquiries carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Sephton said: “This investigation is at a very early stage and while we don’t know the motive for the incident, this must have been a horrific ordeal for this woman.

“While we have one man in custody, I’d also like to reassure local residents that there will be a highly visible police presence in the area.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who has any information about it, to contact Knowsley CID via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
