Fire Destroys Playground Equipment at Eaton Street Park, Prescot
Volunteers from the Friends of Eaton Street Park are devastated today after children’s swings and a picnic table were destroyed in an apparent act of vandalism.
Fire crews arrived shortly after midnight at the Prescot park and were on the scene for approximately twenty minutes while they extinguished the surprisingly large blaze.
Merseyside Fire Service has not yet been able to confirm the cause of the fire, but neighbours have told Prescot Online they heard voices from the park for up to an hour before the incident.
As of publication, a fund to replace the swing and picnic table has raised over £100. You can donate online via JustGiving.
A member of the park’s friend group said that volunteers were “working very hard to improve the park and encourage its use.
“This is a big setback, but we will do our best to ensure we do all we can to replace and improve the play area. Feeling very sad and angry at the same time.”
Another added that “we can’t let the few destroy it for the majority. We are Prescot people and we can work together to get it sorted.”
