Police Appeal for Information in Prescot Rape Investigation
Detectives from the Merseyside Police’s Unity team are appealing for information to assist with an investigation into an allegation of rape.
Kenishka Perera, 47 years of Calderwood Park, Netherley has been charged with a total of 12 offences, including Human Trafficking, Rape, Sexual Assault and Sexual Touching.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, 5 June at an address in Prescot.
Officers were called when a 19-year-old woman reported that she was assaulted as she slept after a night out in St Helens town centre. Officers are particularly keep to trace a taxi driver who collected the suspect and the victim from North John Street, St Helens town centre, at 12.16am on Sunday, 5 June, as he may be able to assist with enquiries.
The taxi is described as a dark-coloured, new-style Hackney, similar to a Peugeot Euro taxi.
Detective Constable Jay Halpin said: “Despite making extensive enquiries with taxi companies in the area, we are yet to trace the taxi driver.
“We believe he could assist with our investigation and I would ask if that was you, to get in contact via 0151 777 1382 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A trial date has been set for 3 April 2017.
