Green Leader Lucas in Prescot to Support Greenbelt Campaign
Green Party leader and Brighton MP Caroline Lucas visited Prescot to give her support to greenbelt campaigners yesterday (Monday 26 September).
She came at the invitation of the increasingly visible Knowsley Green Party, who have joined forces with other activists across the borough to save the once-protected greenbelt from development.
The campaign stems from Knowsley Council’s decision to release roughly half the borough’s greenbelt for housing as part of the wider Knowsley Local Plan.
Local party member Kai Taylor missed out on a Whiston Town Council seat in August, coming 33 votes behind runner-up Paul Shaw (Liberal Democrats), who was narrowly beaten by Gillian Flatley (Labour). Just two votes separated them.
Kirk Sandringham will stand for the Greens in the Knowsley Parish Council by-election on Thursday 13 October.
