Police Appeal: House Fire in Prescot

Update (5pm 23/11/16)  – Merseyside Police can confirm a 30-year-old man, died on Sunday, 20 November following a fire at an address in Molyneux Drive, Prescot on Wednesday, 16 November.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file has been passed to the coroner.

Update (5pm 16/11/16) – Detectives investigating a fire on Molyneux Drive, Prescot, in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, 16 November), in which a man in his 30s was seriously injured, are continuing their enquiries, but at this time are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

Detectives are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has any information about it to contact 101, quoting 0133. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) have launched an investigation after a fire in Prescot in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 16 November.

At around 6.30am, a man in his 30s was found on Molyneux Drive having suffered burns.

MFRS attended and found a flat on fire in nearby St Pauls Close. The man has been taken to hospital by ambulance where his condition is described as critical. Other residents of the flats were safely evacuated. No-one else has been reported injured.

A joint Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, but it is initially being treated as suspected arson. [Editor’s note: Merseyside Police have confirmed they are no longer treating the case as arson.]

A road closure is currently in place at the junction of Molyneux Road and Bryer Road, while the scene is cordoned off for forensic examination and house-to-house enquiries.
