Education Judges ‘Blown away’ by Evelyn Primary School
A Prescot school has scooped a regional award for its pioneering approach to reading and writing.
Evelyn Community Primary School won the Innovative and Creative Literacy Award at the North West Educate Awards 2016, held at Liverpool Cathedral last Friday, 18 November.
The school, on Evelyn Avenue, has transformed an old caravan to make a magical reading place for pupils. The interior currently resembles the Emerald City from The Wizard of Oz, transporting young readers to the fantasy world of L Frank Baum’s classic story.
Judges said they were “blown away” by the educational approach.
Educate Awards founder Kim O’Brien said: “The number of entries we received is testament to the excellence and hard work seen in our schools and colleges across the North West.
“We are proud to host this event which champions the creativity, diversity and dedication of schools in Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire.
“As one judge so eloquently put it, ‘It’s so reassuring to know the next generation of children are in such good hands.’ Congratulations to all of tonight’s winners, runners-up and shortlisted schools.”
