The Halsnead development is one of 14 ‘garden villages’ proposed across the country, and the only one in the Liverpool City Region.

As a village in its own right, it will need its own facilities, including a new primary school and parks. Knowsley Council has promised ‘high quality housing’ and improvement to other amenities in the vicinity.

Documents are available to view on knowsley.gov.uk, and consultations are open until Friday 23 February 2017. You can state your views via email or by post (details on link).

Alternatively, residents are invited to find out more and share their opinion at an open day at St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Centre for Learning on Cumber Lane, Whiston, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 4 February 2017.

The development takes place on the estate bordering Whiston Village to the north and the M62 to the south. The former greenbelt was controversially stripped of its protected status as part of the Knowsley Local Plan, approved by the council in 2016.

Of the proposal, Cllr Graham Morgan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “This is the biggest change that Knowsley will see in the next 15 years and is part of the council’s ambitious plans for growth across the borough.

“Over the past few months, the council has been preparing the exciting new draft Masterplan based upon Garden Village principles, which will help to guide development in the area and will focus on the sites natural and historical assets.

“Historically the site formed part of the Halsnead Park Estate and has been out of bounds to the local community. The Masterplan will change this by opening up the area and enhancing it for the benefit of local people and new residents.

“We want people to get involved in the consultation on the draft Masterplan and have their say.  This is their chance to guide the development of this exciting and unique opportunity.”

The council are also inviting housing developers to find out more about the residential opportunities that Halsnead offers. Interested developers can contact the team on 0151 443 4031 or email discover.halsnead@knowsley.gov.uk.
