Arson Attack in Nelson Place, Whiston

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses after a house fire in Prescot on Saturday 4 February.

Officers were called to Nelson Place, Whiston, at around 1.15am, following reports of a house fire. The officers found that there was a fire to the front door and hallway to the property.

Merseyside Fire service attended and extinguished the fire. It is believed that the fire was started deliberately. The property was empty at the time of the incident and nobody was injured.

A joint investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances, including forensic, CCTV and door-to-door enquiries.

Detective Constable Louise Wood said: “Incidents like this are thankfully rare in our community and we will do everything necessary to find those responsible. We would like to speak to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Nelson Place on the evening of the fire.

“Fortunately, this fire was caught early but it could have resulted in serious injury and damage. Any information no matter how small can be vital to an investigation so I would encourage anyone with information to make contact.”
