Prescot Cables Football Club have scooped the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup for the first time in their 133-year history.

Record crowds of over 900 cheered on the side to a 2-0 victory over Southport FC on Tuesday night, in a thrilling match at Cables’ Hope Street home ground.

Joe Herbert and Andy Scarisbrick scored a goal each – one in each half – to deliver the win.

Fans celebrated with such enthusiasm that a pitch-side fence fell over – along with a handful of supporters – but the situation was quickly fixed, and no one was hurt in the mishap.

“This is no ordinary club, and the buzz about the place is incredible,” a report on the Cables website read this week.

“Once it touches you you realise how special it is. This club is on the up and to finish the season as we have raises our hopes for next year and with the backing of our amazing fans, we’re sure we can push on from this and climb up the league table.”
