Tempest Brewing in Prescot

By on Tuesday, June 6, 2017

A storm is headed for Prescot, as a spectacular outdoor production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest prepares to open.

MATE Productions’ staging of the Bard’s last play has its first performance at 2pm this Saturday, 10 June, in Prescot Woodland Theatre.

A second performance follows at 7pm, and then 2pm on Sunday 11 June. The cast then tour Merseyside and Wirral throughout June and July before returning to the town on Saturday 15 July. On 22 July they will make a one-off appearance at the RSC complex in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of the Bard himself.

In the celebrated tragicomedy, an ageing wizard conjures up a storm to draw his enemies to his magical island, but then he must choose whether to take his revenge or show forgiveness. There’s music, comedy and romance alongside adventure, intrigue and enchantment.

MATE, whose previous outdoor shows have included A Midsummer Night’s Dream and As You Like It, have gone all out with scenery, costumes and special effects for this latest theatrical offering.

Tickets are available from JJ’s Closet (Jessies Jewels) on Leyland Street, Prescot, online at www.mateproductions.co.uk, or by phoning o8444 8000 410. The price is £9.50 for adults, £5.50 for children, or £26 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children).
