Shortlist for Prescot Market Place Redesign
The Royal Institute of British Architects have unveiled five possible designs for the revamped Market Place in Prescot town centre.
RIBA launched the global competition in May, on behalf of Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative.
Forty-five entrants submitted their plans for the open space, which stands between Sewell Street and Church Street, adjacent to the 17th-century Church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin and Prescot War Memorial – the oldest civic memorial in the country, dating to 1916.
The public will be invited to comment on the designs during August, before the winner is announced, and work is expected to begin in early 2018.
“The redesign of Market Place will create a vibrant special space in the heart of the town centre which will complement other amazing developments,” said Cllr Graham Morgan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, “including the new Shakespeare North Playhouse and the multiplex cinema, making Prescot even more attractive to visitors, residents and businesses.”
