Knowsley Council Leader Replaced after Labour Election Losses

By on Wednesday, May 9, 2018

Knowsley Labour have voted to replace Cllr Andy Moorhead (pictured) as their local party leader, following a drop in the local Labour vote in last Thursday’s elections.

Cllr Graham Morgan was elected to take his place, meaning he will almost certainly succeed Cllr Moorhead as council leader when it is put to a full council vote later this month.

Labour lost two seats last week, with Kai Taylor taking Prescot South for the Green Party and independent candidate Allan Harvey taking Halewood South. Both candidates ran in direct opposition to Knowsley’s plans to sell off 10% of the borough’s parks and green spaces, a strategy championed heavily by outgoing leader Moorhead.

Morgan, his successor, resigned from the cabinet late last year for “personal reasons.”

His role as council leader will be made official when the matter faces a vote on 18 May.
