2018 Prescot Christmas Lights Switch-on & Other Events

By on Thursday, November 15, 2018

This year’s Christmas Lights Switch-on takes place on Saturday 1 December in Prescot town centre.

As usual, the event will be a fun-packed afternoon for all ages, with stalls, children’s funfair rides and two hours of live entertainment, including music and dance.

The Mayor of Prescot, Cllr David Rigby, will flick the switch with special guest Leah Whitehead, Prescot’s Citizen of the Year. Fifteen-year-old Leah has worked tirelessly for charity and inspired thousands by sharing the story of her treatment for leukaemia.

There’ll also be a free Christmas selection box giveaway.

The switch-on takes place from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday 1 December, in and around the junction of Eccleston Street and Leyland Street.

Charity Christmas Concert

Another festive highlight in Prescot this year is the Mayor of Prescot’s Charity Christmas Concert, on Thursday 6 December in Prescot Parish Church.

A quintet of musicians from Allerton Brass will perform carols and other alongside local school, church and community choirs at the annual event, which runs from 7pm to 8.15pm. Tickets are just £5 on the door, and under-16s are free with a paying adult.

Seasonal refreshments are included in the entry price. All proceeds will go to local community groups specially chosen by the mayor.

See www.prescotfestival.co.uk for this and other musical events over the festive season.

Christmas Tree of Remembrance

The Friends of Prescot Cemetery & Churchyard present their annual Tree of Remembrance service on Sunday 9 December at 1pm in Prescot Cemetery.

This is an opportunity to dedicate a bauble to a loved one and enjoy carols and refreshments around the Christmas tree. Visit www.prescotcemetery.org.uk to keep up-to-date with the friends group’s activities and events.

Festival of Lessons & Carols

Prescot Parish Church’s traditional Christmas carol service, opening by candlelight, is on Saturday 23 December at 6.30pm. It features music from the choir and is jointly hosted by the neighbouring Catholic church of Our Lady Immaculate & St Joseph.

All are welcome, and festive refreshments follow.
