Prescot Cables 3-1 Kidsgrove Athletic
Report by Richard Tigwell

A much improved second half performance from Prescot Cables saw them secure three valuable points at home to Kidsgrove Athletic last Saturday.

The first half saw neither side create any real chances until the 30th minute, when Aaron Turner’s volley was fired straight at the keeper from distance.

The visitors took the lead on 37 minutes. A Kyle Diskin free-kick was fired under the wall and left a stranded Ollie Taylor rooted to the spot, as the ball nestled in the bottom of the Cables net.

The second half saw Cables increase the tempo and create more chances as a result.

Luke Griffiths and Aaron Turner dominated the midfield area, while Valter Fernandes and James Edgar were able to push up from the full-back positions, putting pressure on the Kidsgrove back four.

The home side created a number of chances and equalised on 77 minutes through Josh Klein-Davies. A well-worked free kick between Fernandes and Edgar saw Fernandes fire a shot, which was parried to Klein-Davies, who flicked the ball in.

The winner came from Lloyd Dean. Another sustained period of pressure and good football down the left side from Edgar saw the ball flicked back to Dean, who finished into an empty net to make it 2-1 to the home side. Chris Almond missed a penalty after he was brought down in the box on 87 mins, but Cables were able to see the game out and seal the three points.
